Is composing music easy? Thanks to the project “Skladačky – composing music is child’s play!” it is!

The Skladačky project offered children from the first grade of elementary schools in the least developed regions of Slovakia a unique opportunity to experience music. The goal was to show them what it’s like to be both a composer and a performer at the same time.
Children who had little to no experience with musical instruments had the chance to try playing the piano, various rhythmic and melodic instruments, and even work with natural sounds of their own bodies. Under the guidance of experienced musicians Ivan Šiller and Tomáš Boroš, they learned to compose simple music pieces and explore the sounds around them during a two-hour session. The project was designed so that even those who had never played an instrument could create meaningful compositions.
Each workshop was divided into two parts. In the first, the children created music and observed piano performances. In the second part, a concert was held where the children’s compositions were presented, along with pieces from the Skladačky and Tarantulky collections by Tomáš Boroš. The program was enriched with other carefully selected compositions.
The project took place in cities like Revúca, Detva, Veľký Krtíš, Stará Ľubovňa, and Bardejov, involving approximately 250 children across 10 workshops.

Locations and times of the workshops:

  1. 4. 2024 o 9:00 a 11:00, Litterra, Revúca
  2. 9. 2024 o 9:00 a 11:00, Kultúrne centrum Andreja Sládkoviča, Detva

The project was supported by public funds, with the main partner Slovak Arts Council. The partner of the Teacher’s College is the Hollen Foundation.
